Proper Rockett will need to be on her a-game to stand a chance of qualifying for the Arena Racing Company Grand Prix final at Sunderland on Friday, according to trainer Savva Roberts.
The seven-times race winner joined the County Durham trainer in February after catching the eye before Christmas where she was successful in two open races over Waterford’s extended 668m trip in Ireland.
A winning debut at Newcastle in A4 company paved the way for an entry into Sunderland’s first major competition of the year which climaxes on Friday, April 17, and is worth £12,500 to the winner.
A trap one draw will work to her advantage, however Savva remains realistic about her chances after being drawn against several high-class opponents including last year’s finalist Newinn Cloud and British Bred Maiden Derby runner-up Greenwell Bolt.
“She won a couple of six-bend races before Christmas in Ireland which caught our eye,” said Savva.
“We’ve brought her on slowly and to be truthful this competition might’ve come too soon for her.
“She’s qualified though, which is the main thing, and has run on strongly at the finish. But we’re up against some top-quality greyhounds, which you would expect at this level.
“It’s a big step up for her going from graded racing over the standard distance at Newcastle. But if she was to qualify on Friday, she’ll be in tip top form for the final.
“It’s an advantage that she’s been drawn in trap one, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
